When the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles increase as we grow older, many turn to Botox to reverse these signs of aging.

What is Botox Made Of?

The active ingredient of Botox is bacterium clostridium botulinum. Doctors use this to treat certain muscular conditions. When used cosmetically, it removes wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing facial muscles.

When injected into the muscle, Botox blocks the signals from the muscles to the nerves, keeping the muscle from contracting. Over time, the injected area “relaxes” and there are subsequently softened lines and wrinkles due to the lesser movement in the area.

The most common areas where Botox is used in the face are the forehead, between the eyebrows (glabella) and lines around the eyes (crow’s feet).
